Ruff & Purr® Frequently Asked Questions:
Restore M3® is a scientifically formulated 3-in-1 synbiotic utilizing probiotics, prebiotics, and digestive enzymes to assist your pet in unlocking the maximum benefits from their food, setting up their immune system for success. A healthy microbiome is the key to healthy digestion and immunity.
Whether a puppy or an adult dog – digestive health is important at any stage of life. This product contains everything you need to tackle your pawed pal’s microbiome needs in a once-daily convenient capsule that can be taken whole or sprinkled on their food.
Probiotics support the gut lining by building a stronger barrier from invaders (like pathogens) and providing a healthier access point for nutrient absorption from our foods. This is why probiotics are often recommended for issues with leaky gut in humans and in animals.
Certain probiotics can actually produce digestive enzymes helping the body be more efficient at breaking down foods naturally. This is one of the many reasons probiotics are good for digestive health.
Probiotics can also increase the number of Short Chain Fatty Acids (also known as SCFAs) which have numerous health effects including controlling populations of pathogenic or harmful bacteria in the gut as well as supporting the immune system and reducing inflammation.
Probiotics can be found in certain foods like yogurts and fermented vegetables and are often referred to as “good bacteria”.
Prebiotics supercharge Probiotics by encouraging the growth of healthy and beneficial bacteria in the gut or “digestive tract”. Prebiotics act as the “food” for probiotics. The perfect prebiotics help only good bacteria grow.
In Restore M3® – we use traditional fiber prebiotics as well as prebiotics from bacteriophage or phage for short. Phages are found in nature anywhere there is bacteria and are nature’s perfect way of keeping bacteria in balance.
Prebiotics can be found in certain foods like fibers from starches or vegetables like sunchokes and carrots. Phages can be found in fermented foods and dairy products as well as bodies of water.
Digestive Enzymes break down the foods that pets and their humans eat into more easily absorbable particles allowing the body more access to the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients found in foods. When foods are not broken down into absorbable particles, the result is often symptoms of indigestion such as gas and bloating and smelly poop.
Digestive Enzymes can be found in nature in all raw foods. You may have heard of enzymes like proteases from pineapple and papaya plants. Digestive enzymes are produced from fermentation similarly to how probiotics and many vitamins are created for supplements and the food industry.
A “synbiotic” is a mixture of one or more probiotics and prebiotics. The combination of both prebiotics and probiotics are powerful and allow for probiotics to more effectively colonize and adhere to the gut lining. Depending on the prebiotic and probiotic combination used, this can help control the population of negative or harmful bacteria and most importantly, help the survival of the positive bacteria compounds in the gut. With better bacteria in your pet’s gut, they will be able to produce more beneficial compounds such as short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) mainly butyrate and acetate. Read more in this Italian study published in 2016 on the effects of synbiotics in dogs.[1]
Short Chain Fatty Acids (or SCFAs for short) are small carbon acid compounds produced by beneficial bacteria within the gut and are products of fermentation which occur when prebiotic fibers are digested in your pet’s gut. SCFAs are known to hold additional benefits such as immune benefits which can cause positive changes to your pets coat, and even their mood. SCFAs are being studied closely for their strong relationship to the gut-brain-access which is reviewing how what we and our pets eat can influence our mood, body composition, immune system and overall health and well-being. Read more about SCFAs in this 2020 study.[2]
ATP is what the body uses to power every reaction and is the primary energy carrier in all living organisms on earth. When you supplement with ATP, it can provide extra energy to aid the digestive process. For example, ATP is needed in both the human and animal body to break down the different macronutrients into usable energy – it is the main fuel for the digestive process to occur. The exogenous consumption of ATP assists with the assimilation of nutrients through the better and more efficient breakdown of those macronutrients from food. Learn more about ATP here. [3]
Yes! Pet parents report that Restore M3® is also helpful for their cats too! We recommend opening the capsule and sprinkling it onto your cat's food with a tiny bit of water. The powder will easily dissolve so you do not have to try to convince your cat to take a capsule whole. We formulated Restore M3® without any taste or flavor so that even the pickiest animals can benefit from restoring their gut microbiome. While there are fewer studies on cats, we have read studies that show cats can benefit from prebiotics too. The digestive enzymes and probiotics may be helpful to better digest the proteins in cat foods as well, as undigested proteins can lead to kidney problems which often are problematic for our feline friends.
Ruff & Purr®’s flagship product, Restore M3®, contains three different products in a single capsule dose. We combine probiotics with both prebiotic and digestive enzymes to make a complete microbiome supplement to tackle all sides of gut health. By feeding Restore M3® to your pawed pal, you eliminate the need to purchase a separate prebiotic, probiotic and digestive enzyme product, while also getting the benefits of all three in a single dose. This can save you an average of $20-$40 per month on additional supplements.
Many products on the market are in a powder scoop with fillers or only using targeting one angle to digestive health. Restore M3® stands out from the rest and the feedback from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s why we do what we do and we are excited for what the future holds.
Having a healthy gut helps support us and our pets against short and long term illness. This is done by both having a greater amount of “good” or “healthy” bacteria in our digestive system as well as having a diverse population of microbes. One of the many benefits is gut motility or the movement of food and nutrients into our bodies. This means we can absorb more nutrients helping our bodies repair more quickly. When you or your pet eat more nutrient dense foods and absorb more nutrients from your food, the beneficial effect is less stress on your bodies and a slowing down of aging. Antioxidants are known for keeping us healthy and well, the same is true for our pets. Undigested foods can lead to gut imbalances, food allergies and leaky gut which are bad, but also things like toxin accumulation in the colon or additional stress on the kidneys which are much worse and can all lead to a shorter life.

- How do probiotics work?

Prebiotics supercharge Probiotics by encouraging the growth of healthy and beneficial bacteria in the gut or “digestive tract”. Prebiotics act as the “food” for probiotics. The perfect prebiotics help only good bacteria grow. - How do digestive enzymes work?
Digestive Enzymes break down the foods that pets and their humans eat into more easily absorbable particles allowing the body more access to the vitamins, minerals, amino acids and other nutrients found in foods. When foods are not broken down into absorbable particles, the result is often symptoms of indigestion such as gas and bloating and smelly poop.
We use only human grade ingredients in our product that are GRAS [4] (Generally Recognized as Safe) by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).
Our products are rigorously tested for the most common microbiological contaminants including, E.coli and coliforms before they leave the manufacturing facility. Part of the additional safety testing which is performed by our manufacturer partner behind the scenes is the verification that each specific strain of probiotic meets GRAS guidelines as recommended by the FDA. Not all companies do this level of safety verification.
Ruff & Purr®’s products are made at a US facility which tests all products for authenticity and safety. Each individual ingredient is tested to verify the identity of each ingredient, to give you the assurance that what is listed on the label matches what is inside of each capsule.
Yes, Restore M3® is made in the USA from domestic and imported ingredients. It is manufactured in a cGMP [5] (Certified Good Manufacturing Process) and NSF [6] (National Sanitation Foundation) certified facility to ensure the ultimate safety of the finished product. Many manufacturing sites across the US are GMP but not as many are cGMP and very few are also NSF Certified.
While for some pets and their owners putting probiotics in a treat or powder scoop may be easier to give their pet, it isn’t the best way to deliver a truly beneficial and efficacious product.
Our delayed release capsule better protects the precious and sensitive contents of our Restore M3® product. This means both better shelf life storage and a more beneficial experience for your pet as the contents are protected through the stomach acid and into your pet’s gut.
Powder scoops are exposed to moisture and often contain unnecessary fillers to fill up a jar. Probiotics are very concentrated; you can get all that you need in a single capsule.
Soft chews and chewable tablets require other ingredients to bind them together to keep their form. Soft chews are considered by some to be treats and thus more appealing to certain picky pawed eaters. Because of their more appealing nature they are generally higher in moisture and chewables and tablets use pressure and heat for compression. Both moisture and heat are not ideal environments for probiotics and digestive enzymes.
The recyclable CSP™ bottle we use for Restore M3® is specifically designed for protecting probiotics and for optimizing probiotic survival and shelf-life stability. It’s specifically tested to keep the bottle contents dry and away from moisture, as heat and moisture can kill live microbes.
Probiotics are digestive enzymes are temperature and moisture sensitive. This means every time the bottle is opened, the contents are exposed to the elements. Our desiccant lined CSP™ bottle helps keep the contents dry even with frequent opening and closing of the bottle. The desiccant is within the layered plastic walls of the bottle instead of being added as a small packet inside the bottle.
Restore M3® should be stored in a cool and dry place away from heat and moisture. It should be kept away from storage in places such as a hot car or even in your pocket for a prolonged period, as the heat and moisture can destroy both enzymes and probiotics.
Storing in the refrigerator in cool conditions is okay. Do not freeze. Storing in the freezer can make capsules brittle and may negatively affect the performance of the product.
This product is intended for supplemental feeding only. Safe use in pregnant animals or animals intended for breeding has not been proven. If your pet’s condition worsens or does not improve, stop product administration and consult your veterinarian.
As your pet’s GI system (gastrointestinal system) adjusts to the addition of probiotics and prebiotics they could experience some short term GI discomforts such as: diarrhea or gas. This is simply the process of the good bacteria moving in and pushing out the less desirable bacteria.
Our customers share with us that these symptoms are minimal, only lasting two to four days at most. We also hear from our customers that their pet’s poops are much better within as little as one day of taking Restore M3®. If you have any serious questions or concerns please feel free to reach out to the Ruff & Purr team at friends@ruffandpurrpets.com or consult directly with your veterinarian.
